Final Project (Illustrator & Scratch)

DIGITAL FOUNDATIONS

FINAL PROJECT

this semester has passed by so quickly. it is already time for submitting the final project - and i had a few different ideas for it.

but after about a week of exploration, i decided to make something related to our curriculum.

let me quickly introduce you to my final project:

an interactive poster / educational game, made through Illustrator & Scratch

what is it about?

goal

the goal of this game is to:

1. introduce different technologies to TC (or outside) students who hope to be future leaders in learning & technology

2. encourage students to take this course if they are interested in learning how to use these technologies

3. have a taste of what it's like to play with a Scratch game, as it is the first technology they will be learning in this course

how are these goals accomplished?

this project requires more than just one technology.

to accomplish these goals, i hope to build the game in Scratch and use Illustrator for the inner design.

i chose Illustrator and Scratch because i personally found Illustrator the most useful for my career, and Scratch the most interesting & fun technology to play with.

for this project, i carried out the following steps:

step 1

using Illustrator, design a digital poster/roadmap that provides an overview of this course

step 2

import digital poster into Scratch, use coding & make poster interactive for players (make it into an educational game)

e.g. use up and down arrows to move poster, move Sprite to touch icons and learn about each technology

screenshots of my project:
(first step in progress: designing the poster & making it into a roadmap)

using Illustrator, i drew a roadmap for this course showing all the technologies we learned this semester.

the 'ultimate goal' of this game is to guide the Scratch Sprite through the map, from the starting point (top left) to the end of the road (right).

when the Scratch Sprite touches the bells under each icon (each technology), a brief introduction to that technology pops up.

this enables players to have a basic knowledge of these technologies and evoke their interest in in-depth learning.

(snapshot of bits of the coding in Scratch)

the player can move the poster made through Illustrator UP or DOWN to see more technologies.

the play can also move the Scratch Sprite in any of the four directions and guide it to walk along the roadmap.
