Improv Assignment

I picked one item from each of the following lists to work on my assignment:

Action: dancing

Thing: sneakers

Response: music

Combining the action of dancing with our special technology-embedded sneakers, we can generate drum beats that can help users explore different combinations of drums and create their own music.

This is kind of similar to tap-dancing; when users dance, their dance steps will be recorded on their phones or laptops, and the resulting drum beats vary according to users’ dance moves.

For example, if they step lightly onto the ground, the technology may give them a cymbal sound; if they step more firmly, it may give a kick or snare sound.

The idea is to incorporate playing (dancing, having fun) and sharing, stimulate learning (through exploring actively, not receiving education passively) about music, and encourage innovation. The recorded track can be shared via certain platforms (apps, social media, forums), allowing users to collaborate in producing one common project, and to be inspired by each other’s work.
